School Profile

Elementary/ Secondary Community Day School consists of (4) small campuses co- located on traditional elementary, middle or high school campuses. Elementary/ Secondary CDS serves students in grades K-8 who are designated as, “High risk” and who may no longer attend traditional public schools. Mandated by the state of California through Assembly Bills 922 and 1845 in 1995 and 1998 respectively, Elementary/ Secondary CDS offers interim educational opportunities in addition to a rigorous, standards-based academic program. Once enrolled at Elementary/ Secondary CDS, students are expected to improve their academic, social/emotional, and life skills; prior to returning to a traditional educational setting. The geographic area of Elementary/ Secondary CDS covers the city of Los Angeles from Chatsworth in the North to San Pedro in the South to East LA in the eastern part of the city. Altogether, the schools sites span an area of 742 square miles. Elementary/ Secondary CDS currently has(4) school sites dispersed throughout LAUSD reflecting the district’s diverse population and socio-economic status.
